With the influx of foreign investment in Pakistan in the recent years, there has been a dire need of trained business professionals and hence, for the set-up of good business schools, especially in the private sector. Keeping this need in mind, a large number of business institutes have been established all over the country, a lot of them also claiming recognition and affiliation with some well-recognized foreign universities. The idea is to produce a surplus amount of professionals in the field that can contribute to the growth and development of these foreign businesses and industries.
There is a long list of accredited business universities in Punjab and Sindh. For instance, Punjab is famous for Lahore University of Management Sciences, Suleman Dawood School of Business, FAST – NU Lahore Business School, Lahore School of Economics , University of Punjab, Imperial College of Business Studies, Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan, Fatima Jinnah University in Rawalpindi and Air Univeristy, Quaid-e-Azam University, NUST Business School and Riphah International University in the Federal Capital, Islamabad.
Sindh also has the country’s top-most universities like Institute of Business Adminitration , Bahria University, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology, Iqra University , Greenwich University , Preston University and the University of Karachi .
These universities offer not only under-graduate programs but also offer a wide variety of graduate and post-graduate programs like Masters. M.Phil, PhD. SZABIST in Karachi has been listed among the top business schools in the world from the year 2001 to 2006, every single year. According to the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan , the top 5 business schools in the country are as follows:
· 1. Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore
· 2. Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi
· 3. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Sci. & Tech. Karachi
· 4. Iqra University , Defence View, Karachi
· 5. Lahore School of Economics (LSE), Lahore
· 6. Institute of Business Management (IBM), Karachi
Thus we see many new universities being set up, both in the public as well as the private sector. Majority of these institutions being located in the hub of Pakistan , that is, Karachi and Lahore . Apart from providing quality education, these universities also offer excellent housing and accommodation facilities for students who wish to join in from other cities/far-flung areas. The only draw-back is the exuberant fees of the private sector universities, making them unaffordable for a lot of people belonging to even the middle social class. They are therefore left with no choice but to join government-run institutes where comprises have to be made with respect to the quality of education received.
