MEN'S FASHION WEEK kicks off this Saturday with Burberry Prorsum, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli and Jil Sander all showing in Milan. Sunday sees Bottega Veneta, Emporio Armani, Prada and Missoni take to the catwalk alongside two of British menswear's biggest names, Vivienne Westwood and Pringle of Scotland. Next week Gucci, DSquared, Versace and Giorgio Armani - as well as Alexander McQueen and Nicole Farhi - will unveil their menswear collections in Milan, before the action moves on to Paris.
But now - more than simply an excuse to look at handsome men, or shop for the man in your life (both of which are still very valid reasons to take an interest in the men's shows) - the menswear collections also act as a prectictor: a sartorial portent of what is to come when the womenswear offerings take to the catwalk this autumn. Sharply tailored suits in brocade with velvet lapels at Dolce & Gabbana menswear predicted the same trend on the womenswear catwalk in March, whilst rounded shoulders, and colour pop and checked coats at Burberry Prorsum men's show in January foretold the very same looks for the girls two months later
