Former Test quick Jason Gillespie has been appointed assistant coach of Australia A's team for their Zimbabwe tour beginning on June 25.
Gillespie took 259 Test wickets in 71 matches between December 1996 and April 2006.
The South Australian will work under Australia A head coach Troy Cooley for the month-long tour.
Cooley has moved into a head coaching role and his former position as Australia's bowling coach has been taken by another ex-Test paceman Craig McDermott.
"This is a really good opportunity for me to learn more about coaching at this level from the likes of Troy Cooley," said Gillespie, 36.
Gillespie has coached in Zimbabwe domestic cricket and was bowling coach for Kings XI Punjab in the recent Indian Premier League season.
South Australia named former Queensland seamer Joe Dawes as their bowling coach this week. Gillespie was also a candidate.
Cricket Australia general manager Michael Brown said Gillespie's appointment was part of a push to fast-track former players who show a desire to become elite coaches.
Brown said CA batting coach Justin Langer, Queensland coach Darren Lehmann and Gillespie are part of the first wave of the program, along with McDermott.
Australia A will play a one-day tri-series involving Zimbabwe and South Africa A, before finishing with two four-day matches against Zimbabwe.
Australia A will depart on June 25, returning on July 25.
